CHRISTIAN NEWS NORTHWEST… June 2011 “Marriage coaching skills shared”
Portland:
Western Seminary will host a marriage coaching workshop at its Portland campus at 5511 S.E. Hawthorne Blvd. On Saturday, June 11. It is co-sponsored by Vancouver, Washington-based MarriageTeam.
A relatively new approach for working with couples, coaching is different from traditional counseling and therapy, in that it focuses specifically on giving couples specific skills and showing them how to create agreements and actions that result in long term behavior change. It creates positive mutual accountability.
The workshop is for counselors, pastors, and church leaders who work with couples and couples who want to help other couples. Attendees are strongly encouraged to bring their spouse or significant other because the workshop will involve actual coaching sessions around real issues. They will leave with some new tools and a different perspective on how to help couples.
Attendees will learn how to apply the traditional counseling skills with coaching skills to strengthen and save marriages through the process of building relationship skills and helping couples clarify issues, identify options, and move to action.
Cost of the workshop is $59 for a couple and just $49 for an individual. The cost includes lunch, a book on marriage coaching, and materials. For additional information, contact Al Ray at Marriage Team, 360-450-4131 or go to www.marriageteam.org to register.
