Pre-Marital Coaching
A study published in Journal of Family Psychology concluded that couples who received an average of 8 hours of premarital education had a 31% lower chance of divorce after 4 years.1
This little quiz will give you insight into whether or not pre-marital coaching might be helpful. All statements can be answered with either True or False.
1. ____ We have developed a budget.
2. ____ I am completely satisfied with the way we solve problems.
3. ____ I do not expect to have any issues/problems with my in-laws.
4. ____ We are able to deal with our anger in a constructive manner.
5. ____ I am satisfied with the way my fiancé picks up after himself or herself.
6. ____ I am satisfied with the amount of time that my fiancé spends with me.
7. ____ We have completed at least six sessions of pre-marital counseling.
8. ____ Our parents have never been divorced.
If you answered any questions with a False, then you could benefit from pre-marital coaching. MarriageTeam coaches use the internationally recognized PREPARE inventory to help you create the marriage you want with six 2-hour sessions as a supplement to whatever other counseling the pastor performs. The sessions involve a review of the inventory and a guided discussion using a workbook for each participant. It is desirable to begin the coaching 6-12 months prior to the wedding, but it can be done closer to the wedding date. Print a copy of this exercise: pre-marital assessment.
