Coaches Greg and Wendy recently coached their 13th couple! We asked them to share their thoughts in a quick Q&A on relationships, dating, and their dreams for the future.
How did you meet?
We met as kids in grade school in our little town of 1100 people in North Dakota, when Greg’s parents invited the new family over (Wendy’s mom and dad plus her three sisters).
What did you do on your first date?
Probably horseback riding on the farm where Greg lived.
What’s the best relationship advice you’ve ever given?
Greg: Always make certain you earnestly attempt to understand your spouse.
Wendy: Always treat your spouse like a best friend (don’t take things for granted).
What is one thing you’ve learned about marriage?
It pays great dividends to appreciate and verbalize the kindness of your spouse.
What is your idea of a favorite date night?
Wendy: Out for a nice leisurely dinner.
Greg: Dinner and ballroom dancing like we both learned in middle school, which after marriage we developed much further.
What is your favorite holiday tradition?
Greg’s is the sleepover of our entire family of 15 when we spend 36 hours together.
If Wendy has a bad day, how do you cheer her up?
Greg: I don’t try to do anything but just let her work through it with some time.
Wendy’s favorite book, Greg’s favorite book?
Greg’s favorite book is The Pillars of the Earth because Wendy told him that was her favorite book.
What is your favorite thing about Wendy?
The way she speaks out loud to others what I am often thinking (and feeling) and wish I had said.
What is your favorite thing about Greg?
Greg almost always puts Wendy first.
What’s on your bucket list as a couple?
Continue to travel and be open to any nudging from the Holy Spirit about how to use our financial resources to help others.
A big thank you to Greg and Wendy for generously giving your time and service to MarriageTeam! Your support means so much.
