Organization

MarriageTeam is a faith-based, nonprofit that trains Christian couples to be marriage coaches and provides marriage coaching services.  MarriageTeam has helped more than 2000 couples since 2006.  The vision is to provide effective and affordable Christian marriage coaching services nationally to strengthen and save marriages with biblically based coaching. MarriageTeam also works internationally with missionary organizations. Its relatively small size creates a collaborative and congenial work environment.

Position Summary

The Development Director ensures MarriageTeam has an effective development program consistent with the highest standards and biblical stewardship principles to meet growing mission requirements.  This includes helping constituents grow in their faith through stewardship of God given resources; raising funds, and providing high-touch, personal communications with constituents.  Some travel as well as some weekend and evening work will be required.

Responsibilities

General

  • Works closely with the Executive Director to set fund development goals, establish annual budget, and create and execute a development program consistent with biblical stewardship.
  • Maintains and grows donor database; effectively manages and tracks donor relationships.
  • Meets agreed upon monthly and annual activity and income goals and is purposeful about every visit and communication and the desired outcome for each “touch.”
  • Works collaboratively with program, communication and ministry outreach and admin support staff to develop giving opportunities that documents funding needs in terms of real program costs, how dollars impact people, outcomes achieved, shortfalls and exciting mission advancement opportunities.
  • Works with consultants and contractors to further development goals and events.

Major Gifts (50%)

  • Cultivates and develops major donor relationships by planning, coordinating and conducting meetings with donors and perspective donors. Builds these relationships on a clear understanding of donor values and interests while consistently stewarding these relationships to strong outcomes for both the donors and MarriageTeam.
  • Researches, identifies, educates and solicits contributors for the general fund and special projects.
  • Equips, encourages and cultivates personal solicitation by the Board and coach couples according to interests and capabilities.
  • Encourages individuals, corporations, and foundations to contribute through endowments, trusts, donations of gifts-in-kind, or bequests.
  • Develops a legacy giving program that focuses on the donors’ legacy desires.
  • Presents MarriageTeam to various constituencies and audiences clearly communicating all aspects of its vision and services.

Annual Events and Campaigns (15%)

  • Schedules, plans, organizes, promotes and directs large and small fund-raising events and enlists support from staff and volunteers.
  • In coordination with the Communication and Outreach Manager develops materials to promote development opportunities.
  • Organizes drives for pledges of ongoing support.
  • Leads the year-end giving drive.

Administration (15%)

  • Supervises and coordinates activities of staff and volunteers engaged in maintaining records, generating reports, and preparing letters of appreciation for donors.
  • Maintains relationships with National Christian Foundation, Murdock Foundation, and Mission Increase Foundation in their advisory and support roles.
  • Uses written skills to communicate effectively with constituents through letters, articles in newsletters, and e-mail.
  • Follows-up with lapsed donors as appropriate.

Grants (10%)

  • Oversees research of public and private grant agencies and foundations to identify other sources of funding for projects.
  • Works to establish personal working relationship with foundations and ensures grant proposals for special projects are written as required.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the scriptural principles of stewardship and fundraising.
  • Understand the needs and interests of key partners and develops a program to grow constituents from awareness to active program and financial support.
  • Desirable:

o    Knowledge of programs and laws that impact charitable giving, personal assets and estates and legacy giving.

o    CFRE

Skills and Abilities

  • Able to effectively communicate the MarriageTeam vision and mission.
  • Able to lead a biblically based development program or significant transferrable skills.
  • Must be a relationship-oriented person who desires the best for others. Able to work with constituents, board members, community and business leaders, and potential donors.
  • Attention to detail, high level of comfort in planning programs that get results and persistence in the process of growing constituents.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors (Non-profits, Business or Financial Management preferred) or equivalent experience; masters desired.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in development.
  • Proven track record of generating revenue from various sources.
  • Demonstrated high level of initiative and ability to work both collaboratively and independently to achieve results.
  • Valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
  • Mandatory: Must complete marriage coach training once employed

Computer Skills

  • Proficiency in CRM, preferably ACT, and MS Office.
  • Experience with donor development software, preferably FrontStream/Gift Works.
